Geography sidebar:
Falun, Small town in the inland of northwest Sweden.
Helsingborg, Harbour-city in the very South of Sweden, the bus leaves Swedish territory and regulations at this point.

This is what he tells the German police:

"From fall 1989 to spring 1993 I was employed as a busdriver. In 1993 I was laid off due to structural difficulties, In 1994 I founded a company with a partner. I took a loan for SEK 180.000 ($22.500/£13.300) or SEK 360.000 ($45.000/£26.600) in case my partner didn't pay. Since December 1995 I work extra as busdriver, and then I get 20% of what the bus owner gets form the tour operator. For the company Larson Bus it was the first time I drove. For this job I got paid SEK 1.500 / £115 / $180"

Unfortunately our driver does not drive for the company Larsson Bus - he does not know who he drives for. The bus is owned by a company named "Bus Tour in Falun AB". The owner of Bus Tour in Falun AB drives the bus to Helsingborg where the totally inexperienced driver starts driving.

Was he really inexperienced? Well read his story about what happened when he sat down to drive after the breakfast stop - about an hour before the accident happened - and he starts driving on the off-ramp instead of the on-ramp to autobahn.

"At the exit from the breakfast stop there was a very narrow on-ramp which could be mistaken for an off-ramp, which I also did, so I continue approx. 200 meters to turn the bus around, and after reversing I get the wrong gear, so the engine stops. When I start the bus again a car comes from the right which breaks to let me pass. The bus in standing in a slope and chooses gear 2, which is normal, (halfautomatic) and I get an additional engine stop. After that there were no problems associated with the exit."

The driver was convicted for serious recklessness in traffic and had his driving license revoked.
